Eco-friendly sports
Riding the dunes eco-style. Sandboard or boogie board in the sand? You bet.
This isn’t a new pastime; it’s just picking up momentum on the Oregon National Dunes.
Goggles should be a part of this adventurous sport because sand in the eye just plain hurts.
Speaking of sand, prepare yourself because it gets everywhere. You may find it for days after leaving the dunes.
Sand is a bit like snow: It sticks to you, and weather conditions effect performance. Pick a warm sunny day for the least resistance on your downhill ride and a lot less sand to stick to you.

Stand back and protect your eyes. Sandboarders could spray you with sand if conditions are right. Looks like that was the case on this day - Photo by Benjamin Brayfield
Support crew optional
Board sports don’t require a support crew, but it helps if you have someone to show your moves to and to converse with. The buddy system is always suggested for safety’s sake.
Sand Master Park in Florence, the world’s first sandboarding park, is at 87542 U.S. Highway 101 just north of Fred Meyer.
