Golf Tip: Plan out your shots to score better
How well you score greatly depends on how well you put all of your individual skills and abilities together to perform, then attack the golf course.
Every player, regardless of skill level, should always have a clear-cut strategy in mind on how they would like to play a certain hole. It’s really just another type of visualization. If you have a clear plan in mind, you’ll often be successful, or at least come close. But to fire away without a plan means the ball can finish literally anywhere.
The most important factor in choosing a playing strategy is to pick one that fits both your golfing ability and your playing personality.
There’s no rule in golf that says you have to hit the driver or even the 3-wood off the tee. The key to golf is to play the ball to the best position from which to play the next shot. Where you place the ball off the tee is usually more important than how far you hit it.
Shooting for the pin may also seem heroic, but if the percentages are so high against you, what’s the point?
Poor decisions are the greatest cause of high scores by amateurs. If you’re confident in your own ability to play a shot, then your mind will be filled with images of the fine shot you’re about to play.
Always remember to think before hitting any shot. Remember the old saying about golf being 90 percent mental? Strategy is the area where most of that mental work needs to be done.
