Golf Tip: How to stop the agonizing 3-putts

We have all felt the anguish of three-putting a green after hitting a very good approach shot. Not only do we have to deal with the inner voice shouting quietly at ourselves, but we might have to endure the feeling of letting down a partner, or unwillingly accept those infamous ribbings from playing companions, or worse, maybe the loss of a few dollars.

Here are a few suggestions.

First, it is crucial to set up to the ball so the putter is allowed to swing straight back and through with efficiency. The two setup keys are: positioning the eyes over the ball and setting the shoulders parallel to the target line.

Second, maintain a steady head position throughout the entire putting stroke. Maintain good acceleration through the ball.  Maintain square contact position consistently. Maintain confidence in yourself and your techniques. Just as the old adage goes, if you say something long enough, you will start to believe it.
